This summer, the Infosys Foundation USA Pathfinders program buzzed with creativity at CodeJoy's Robot Mini Golf for the Classroom professional development course! During Session A, a whopping 184 participants (most joining live!) embarked on a whirlwind (pun intended) challenge.
The Challenge: Mini Golf Mini Windmill!
The goal? Craft a mini golf hole covered by a mini windmill. Sounds easy! But the twist? This wasn't your average backyard windmill. This creation had criteria and constraints!
- Criteria: Things your project must do or have
- Build a windmill that blocks and unblocks a golf ball hole as it spins.
- Must have at least 1 rotation servo
- Stretch goals:
- Add an LED!
- Decorate your project on a theme, like a carnival, a movie, or an artist.
- Use a keyboard event or the micro:bit buttons/logo to change the speed or direction of your project
- Constraints: Limits on your project
- Time: 15 minutes to build
- Materials you have available
And here are the results!
With limited time and using whatever materials they had handy, participants unleashed their ingenuity. Cardboard, hot glue guns, and a dash of creative thinking became the building blocks for these mini marvels. The session was a testament to the power of Project Based Learning (PBL), where participants tackled a real-world challenge through hands-on exploration.
